A field trip of high school biology students ended with many of the students having a rash on their legs, which was eventually traced to blood flukes entering the skin. The parasites probably were brought by birds. They infected sea snails, and then were transmitted to the children.

The poisoning at Pamlico Sound
Article Abstract:
A newly-discovered alga called Pfiesteria piscicida apparently is toxic enough not only to kill fish but also to poison human beings. The first reported case of the poisoning involved aquatic botany research associate Howard Glasgow, Jr, but there may be other instances as well.

Is my kitchen faucet poisoning me with lead?
Article Abstract:
Most faucets are made from a brass alloy that may contain as much as 8% lead. A test of water in new faucets revealed enough lead residue to cause a health hazard for some people. However, running the water for 60 seconds can significantly reduce the lead levels in most cases.
