Research indicates that most water pollution is caused by agricultural runoff and municipal sewage, not by the activities of boaters. However, boaters must increase their concern for the environment if they want to avoid being the target of legislation.

Creature features: life is abundant and grand in the Great Dismal Swamp

A yacht cruise through the Great Dismal Swamp Canal in a Contest 41 ketch is described. The canal, which is the oldest operating artificial waterway in the US, provides a habitat for 179 bird species, the rare log fern and other wildlife.
