Mauritius is described as the 'sugary pearl of the Indian Ocean' but the importance of sugar industry is supplanted by tourism and Mauritius has become a trendy holiday destination that has little to offer for cruisers. The trip to Mauritius from Chagos where the tough trade winds form a less-favorable angle and the various incidents that occurred during the trip are discussed.
