Article Abstract:
About 20% of all ski injuries involve the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of four ligaments that hold the knee in place. ACL injuries are baffling because they occur before a fall, when the skier is in control. The answer to the puzzle may be new gear or new skiing techniques.

Skiing is a risky sport and tearing an ante-cruciate ligament in the knee is more likely to happen than breaking a leg in 2000. The industry is trying to find a way to prevent these injuries, which count for 20% of total skiing accidents, and ways to help yourself are presented.

A new program developed by orthopedic surgeons reduced anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injuries by half in a study group of professional skiers. The program trains skiers to recognize 'phantom-foot syndrome' and other situations that commonly cause ACL sprains.
