The Union Cycliste Internationale has devised a plan to tighten testing procedures and limit race distances to revive the reputation of road cycling after the 1998 Tour de France drug scandal. The plan includes regular blood and urine tests and methods to make racing less physically demanding.

Members of the Lehigh Wheelmen bicycle club road tested the Bianchi Volpe, Cannondale T1000, Raleigh R3000 and Trek 520 touring bicycles. They found that the models are easily handled and comfortable with their combined brake/shift levers, light and strong frames, and powerful brakes.
