Yosemite's breathtaking views and hiking trails are highlighted for outdoor enthusiasts. Many popular areas of the park are covered including the backcountry regions of Gaylor Lakes, Tioga Pass and the John Muir Trail. Changes in the wake of recent floods are also discussed.

Walking the Backbone: a stunning new trail along the spine of California's Santa Monica Mountains
Article Abstract:
The Backbone Trail is where Will Rogers once lived. This 65-mile scenic trail offers hikers beautiful ocean views and spectacular scenery. Wildlife is abundant, with coyotes, red-tailed hawks, deer and more in view. It is part of a 600-mile trail network.

Sierra summit: bringing California's famed mountains back to peak condition
Article Abstract:
A conference among environmentalists, government, industry, and academia was held to study the restoration of the Sierra Mountains. Years of unchecked logging, mining, and tourism have placed a great deal of stress on the mountains.
