The handicap system in sailboat racing is to make the playing field more even by taking into account the dissimilarity of the boats. Several rating systems have been developed such as the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet, the International Measurement System and the Channel Handicap System.

Block Island fields a spectrum of racing classes
Article Abstract:
The Storm Trysail Club's Block Island Race Week in Rhode Island was a success as the event featured a diverse team of sailors running a range of popular classes. Such classes include PHRF, IMS, one-design, Swan and Whitbread 60. The race's favorite course was Round the Island Race.
