Golfing events that took place between 1897 and 1947 are described. W.R. Betts won the National golf tournament in 1897, after playing a 19th hole due to a protest by C.B. Macdonald, the second-place finisher. Ben Hogan and two other golfers objected to wearing numbers at a golf tournament in 1947.
