Runner Tom Derderian attempts wheelchair racing. He discusses the aches, pains and last finish in a race. His coach was Bob Hall, credited with establishing wheelchair racing as a sport. Hall constructs racing wheelchairs of titanium with a price of $3,700.

Quantum leap: the author returns to college after 25 years to see if he can still make the cross-country team
Article Abstract:
A 42-year-old former student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst went back to see if he could still make the track team. His training caused him pain, but he made the team because two other runners were ill. He competed in the first meet.

Ten especially great Boston Marathons include the years 1897, 1907, 1914, 1922, 1939, 1946, 1957, 1966, 1975 and 1986. The marathon featuring the first woman runner was held in 1966, but women were not allowed to officially enter until 1972.
