The turnover of the Panama Canal to Panama has had negative consequences for yachtsman using the Canal. Fees and fines have increased substantially while services have declined. Some fear that recreational traffic will be eliminated.

The peerless pilot of Panama
Article Abstract:
Sarah Terry was the first female pilot licensed to drive boats through the Panama Canal. She began her job when the US controlled the Canal and continued after the handover to Panama, later resigning to go cruising.
