Several East Asian ship repairers in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand face difficulties in conducting business due to increased work loads at low prices. Shipyards are undertaking conversions to fully compete with other nations having lower cost base. Increased competition and low freight rates are being considered as cause of low prices, according to Hitachi Zosen Singapore.
