Drinking dilemma
Article Abstract:
The House of Lords has rejected some of the proposals in the draft Deregulation Order for the Millennium holiday, under which premises with a liquor licence will be permitted to remain open all night on Dec 31, 1999, and all day on Jan 1, 2000, if they wish to do so and if there is sufficient customer demand. The Deregulation Committee stated that parliament did not have enough evidence to support an extension of the deregulation proposal for every New Year's Eve in the future and that the proposal must be reconsidered on the basis of experience on New Year's Eve 1999.
