Italy to bring in directive at last
Article Abstract:
The EC Directive on Package Travel will come into effect in Italy in Sep 1995. This will oblige travel organisers to provide financial protection against collapse to customers. Italian travel agents have expressed concern about the management of the trust fund to which they must contribute 0.5% of the cost of insurance policies on package holidays. Spain and Greece are now the only two European countries which have not ratified the directive.

New Euro cash blow for trade
Article Abstract:
The European tourism trade may face reduced funding or no funding at all after the EU's tourism budget was frozen at 9 million Ecu for 1995. The cuts may cause the DGXXIII tourism unit to shut down and could put the second stage of the European Tourism Action Plan in jeopardy. All tourism aid would have to be funded out of other schemes.
