Article Abstract:

The issue of private sector involvement in leisure schemes in the UK was tackled from a number of different angles by speakers at a conference on Partnerships and the Private Finance Initiative organized by Colin Beeton Associates. A number of speakers expressed the view that the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) is not necessarily a suitable approach for leisure projects. PFI can only really be successful as part of a wider approach involving contracting out, joint ventures, market testing, sponsorship and selling services into wider markets.
