The tale of Herdwick sheep

A National Trust exhibition featuring Beatrix Potter's Lake District conservation work opened in Keswick, England in March, 1993. The display portrays her role as Herdwick sheep farmer. Publishers Frederick Warne & Co and electricity company, Norweb financed the scheme. The exhibition aims to recoup maintenance costs of 16 farms of 4,000 acres bequeathed by Potter to the National Trust. Conservation work is revealed through audio-visual, interactive and static displays.

Chawton Estate, Hampshire, England is available for development. The estate comprises Chawton House and 300 acres of land. Planning permission has been granted for hotel and golf complex. However, Jane Austin lived in Chawton House from 1809. It now houses a collection of artifacts relating to her literary career. The Jane Austin Society considers sporting development inappropriate.
