Why consult consultants?
Article Abstract:
An eight-point plan indicates how management consultants may be used to optimum effect in the leisure industry. Aims should be clearly stated. Consultants should receive existing information to avoid duplication. They should be aware of the end-user so that appropriate reports may be compiled. The project should be phased so that frequent evaluation may be made. Reasonable deadlines should be set for feedback. Expertise and quality rather than financial criteria should be used in selecting the team. Clients should collaborate with consultants to facilitate research.

On the fairway
Article Abstract:
The European golf market seems to be recovering from the difficulties it experienced in the early 1990s after a period of over-hasty expansion in the late 1980s. US golf concerns such as Club Corp of America and American Golf have been particularly influential in shaping the reorganization of the golf market in Europe. The leading golf concerns are all actively seeking new sites, but are strongly aware that economic success will be determined by location and local market conditions. As the industry matures, more emphasis will be placed on customer care.

Shared interests
Article Abstract:
Timeshare operations in the US are proving very successful after a change of image. They have new high standards of product and service, and a change of name to vacation ownership. Major US operators include Marriott Vacation Club and Disney Vacation Club. Timeshare in Europe is also changing. High resort quality is proving increasingly attractive, and evidence suggests that more families are showing an interest. The product is also becoming more flexible, with operations including holiday clubs and points systems becoming popular.
