Busting a gut
Article Abstract:
Experts visiting the UK's newest American-themed diner, Dave & Buster's in Solihull, found that the concept has transferred successfully across the Atlantic. Bass Leisure Entertainments has invested heavily in the concept, and the concept's founders are also still involved. Dave & Buster's combines American menus, a bar, amusement machines and bar games. The overall experience is of quality and attention to detail, but the prices are very high. The venue is well-staffed, the food and service are excellent, and there are quality touches throughout the complex.

Article Abstract:
Merlin Entertainments Group Chief Executive Nick Varney describes the activity surrounding the sale of Vardon Attractions, the owner of the Sea Life and Dungeon brands, in Jan 1999. Varney led a management buyout which involved financial partnership with Apax Partners & Co, the Bank of Scotland and Chase Capital. Merlin will open a Sea Life Centre in Konstanz, Germany, in Apr 1999, and plans a further Sea Life Centre opening and a Dungeon opening for 2000. However, Varney continues to be concerned about the health of the UK tourist industry.
