On the up
Article Abstract:
Vertical transportation systems are at last being designed in original and attractive ways by British architects, after four decades of little change. Lifts are no longer viewed as a disadvantage to leisure companies because they can be used to expand and enhance the business operation. Lift and escalator designs should vary according the functional requirements, and should adhere to building and safety standards, say experts. Linear induction motors and sky lobbies with integrated mega shopping malls are just some of the industry's latest developments.

Better by design
Article Abstract:
Creating an attractive environment can considerably boost profit levels at leisure facilities such as cinemas and swimming pools. It is worth offering extra attractions, including video games, interactive adventures and children's play areas, but these must be integrated into the overall planning and design of the facility and must be appropriate to the facility's customer base. It is now time for leisure facilities to adopt an approach which is customer-orientated, not product-orientated.
