Scotland's travel industry accounted for 5% of gross domestic product in 1998 and provides employment for up to 177,000 people. Holidays accounted for 59% of international visits to Scotland in 1996, with business trips accounting for 14%. The seasonal nature of Scotland's travel industry means up to 50% of all visits are taken during the period between July and September. The Scottish Tourist Board is spearheading a major campaign to encourage more visitors to Scotland during 1999.

Thailand's travel industry was seriously affected by the Asian currency market collapse in 1997 which resulted in fewer Japanese tourists visiting the region. The travel industry rose in value from 190,795 million bhat in 1995 to 220,754 million bhat in 1997. One of the main attractions of Thailand is the rich food culture which is being promoted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in an attempt to increase the average length of stay and expenditure made by tourists.

Hungary
Article Abstract:
In 1997, Hungary accounted for 2.82% of world tourism arrivals, according to the World Tourism Organization and the Hungarian Central Statistics Office. Revenue from international tourism totalled $2,582 million in 1997 and the industry employs between 250,000 and 30,000 people. An overview of Hungary's tourism resources is given, along with economic data, details of arrivals, transport, accommodation, and forecasts for the future.
