Switched on: computer-controlled sound and light systems have opened up greater possibilities for stunning effects
Article Abstract:
Nightclubs and theme bars are increasingly turning to digital sound and lighting and PC computer control to create their own corporate dance portfolios. Independent operator Tom Alexander has recently launched the new Club Mirage which features a liquid UV activated mural, and Greenalls Inns has refurbished its Studio Warehouse creating a very visual multi-purpose venue. Lighting control is simpler, with fixtures managed from a common operating platform, and most sound and lighting systems can be set up through software.

Sound bites back
Article Abstract:
Music played in fitness classes often requires a licence as it is being played in a public place. A licence can be obtained from the Performing Rights Society or the Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) in order to comply with the legislation. However, the use of home recordings is illegal and a separate licence, the Aerobic Music Dubbing Licence, is required for companies to produce compilations by various artists. The subject of music licensing is discussed further.

Sound effects
Article Abstract:
Audio visual technology is becoming more and more common in leisure attractions and museums. Museums are using interactive exhibits for visitors to find out information and network systems. Simulation technology also is becoming more common, and huge screens can be viewed by hundreds of people. The type of audio visual system to be used will depend on whatever is most suitable. Cost and quality of images and sound will be deciding factors.
