Taking action
Article Abstract:
There is likely to be a strong rise in demand for activity holidays in the UK, but the sector will have to meet strict new safety guidelines if it is to fully benefit from this demand. Some moves are being made to introduce a voluntary scheme for accreditation, supervised by the Activity Centre Advisory Committee (ACAC). The government is also likely to take a more positive role in monitoring safety standards.

Out and about: changes to the legislation of activity centres are going ahead, but are not meeting with a consensus
Article Abstract:
Proposals for the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulation include creating two schemes that could operate parallel to each other, one mandatory and the other voluntary. Not all centres offering adventure activities will have to be licensed, as the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has listed those activities that offer higher levels of risk such as caving, climbing and paddle sports.
