The effect of the across-the-border travel of Canadian tourists on the city of Spokane: a replication
Article Abstract:
A 1982 study on the impact of Canadian tourists on the economy of the city of Spokane, WA, was replicated using a time-series, quasi-experimental design. Data was obtained by recording the number of automobiles bearing Canadian license plates for one day and through questionnaires sent to Canadian travelers staying in the city. 220 cars were recorded in 1988 as opposed to 296 in 1982. Responses to the survey revealed an increase in the frequency of Canadian visits in 1988, mostly by adults over 56 years old and people from higher income groups. However, the number of Canadian visitors to Spokane, duration of stay and expenditures for meals and lodging dropped considerably.

Factors affecting time spent by near-home tourists in city destinations
Article Abstract:
There are several factors that affect the travel behavior of US tourists in choosing a city destination close to their place of residence. One such factor is the perceived destination image of the city under consideration for travel. Leisure motives, age, income and distance are other factors that influence the decision-making process. The perceived expensiveness of a destination is also an important determinant of destination choice.

Travel by excursion coach in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
Studies on the use of coach trips in central-southern England show that such trips are a cost-efficient means of leisurely travel. Aside from offering increased access to more tourist destinations, this mode of transport is also environment-friendly. With all these benefits for both business and travellers alike, both local and national governments should increase support for and promote the use of coach trips
