Vending variety
Article Abstract:
The installation of vending machines in the UK in the past ten years has grown dramatically to about 50,000 machines, and there is still a great deal of growth potential in swimming pools, health centres and sports clubs. As well as supplying drinks and snacks, the machines also offer sports goods. Sales of in-cup drinks, which account for more than 30% of the market, have grown nearly 100% in ten years, to almost 5 billion cups a year. Machines selling cans are now more common and this is expected to be a growth area. Automatic Vending Association of Britain (AVAB) represents members and helps in maintaining standards and providing details of members who can advise on customers' needs.

Taking stock
Article Abstract:
Vending machines offering hot and cold drinks, snacks and confectionary are profitable pieces of equipment for any facility. Vending machines can be operated in-house particularly by large facilities where the machines can be handled by the current catering staff. An outside operator is more suitable for smaller facilities, but an important factor is the supply of training for facility staff as well as the provision of support personnel. The type of products supplied by a vending machine should always match customer demand, particularly younger customers.

Cadbury launches attack on confectionery vending market
Article Abstract:
Cadbury Schweppes has returned to the vending machine market for its chocolate products, having developed a technologically sophisticated Sielaff vending machine with the London Underground, London, UK, underground railway, and British Rail, UK, railway, in mind. It had earlier withdrawn from the vending machine market because of vandalism and pricing structures. Usage of the new machines at some London Underground sites has proved them to be vandal-proof.
