Simulators: boom or bust?
Article Abstract:
The market for simulators is expected to grow in the next five years. Quality should not be compromised for the sake of growth. The natural location of simulators has tended to be amusement arcades, but simulation centres are also being developed. There is expected to be a growth in demand for single-seat simulators, but operators are looking for profit, and it is questioned whether quality is possible at at under 5,000 pounds sterling. There is concern about an increase in frightening video games, which could lead to regulation of simulation software. It is questioned how much development there can be in the industry. Simulator theatres are a potential market for expansion, especially at heritage attractions and museums, though there has not proved to be sufficient demand at theme parks.

Stuart Soloway
Article Abstract:
Stuart Soloway, Managing Director of the European Operations of the Warner Bros Studio Stores, has opened ten of the themed retail stores in the United Kingdom. Warner Bros is not a direct competitor of the Disney Corporation retail stores, says Soloway, with Warner's products more oriented towards adults than Disney products. Other Time Warner interests are not widely promoted in the retail stores. Soloway aims to expand the retail stores throughout Europe, particularly the Benelux countries, Italy, Spain, France and Scandinavia.

It's a family affair
Article Abstract:
Las Vegas has traditionally had a rather negative image, being associated with gambling and cabaret, but is now making efforts to become more attractive by creating family entertainment centres. This is being partly prompted by the fact that the city is facing growing competition in the gambling sector. The city's large hotels now have attractions or shows aimed at visitors of all ages, with the Luxor, for example, having opened a Sega Virtualand Arcade.
