David Horsfall on von Thunen's model
Article Abstract:
H.J. von Thunen formulated a theory of agricultural management in 1826 that described a system which was isolated from external factors and considered only market prices, production costs and transport costs. The model based the farmers efforts to optimize profit on the distance travelled to market determining what products would be grown. This would result in a concentric distribution of production based on the cost of bringing a product to market.

Invasion of the cuddlies
Article Abstract:
The early usage of such tactile terms as 'warm and fuzzy,' 'security blanket,' and 'touchy-feely' are discussed. None of the terms were popular before the 1970s. Instead of using the simple term 'soon,' air hostesses use 'momentarily' as a landing time. This can also mean 'just for a moment.'
