Article Abstract:
Talbot and his wife Jennifer moved a 1790 Cape house and joined it to their 1810 Victorian farmhouse. Later, realizing that the family needed a larger space, a barn was constructed in 1994. The Talbot house is therefore made up of three parts with the newest component used as garage and storage space.

Accounting for taste: what makes a connoisseur?
Article Abstract:
Connoisseurship in western culture was a trait of the aristocracy, but flourished under capitalism. It was too boring for modern taste, and was attacked by deliberate bad taste, and confusion. The pros and cons of egalitarian taste with its social conscience overlay, is discussed.

Jewels of the crown
Article Abstract:
The British built hill stations, tiny villages in the foothills of the Himalayas, during the 1800s to escape India's heat. Some of these places are well-preserved and still evoke the quaint elegance and British style of the past. A visit to an inn in Darjeeling is described.
