The White Pass and Yukon Route was built in 1898 to run prospectors for gold from Skagway into the Yukon. The rail still operates on the same 71 bridges and with the same passenger cars. The rail was an engineering feat for the time.

Ann Goessel, an Athabascan Indian, runs Beads 'n Things gift shop in Fairbanks, AK. She learned bead work from her Grandmother and opened the shop with only $1,500 in 1987. She sells the work of other native craftspeople.

The devil's club
Article Abstract:
Devil's club is a coarse, spiny woody shrub with a range from northern California to southcentral Alaska. Though natives found many medicinal uses, modern man has yet to find a viable commercial use for the plant.
