Understanding exit pupils

Article Abstract:

The exit pupil is the image of an optical system's aperture stop as seen from image space . The exact location, size and shape of an exit pupil can be determined only by carefully observing the stream of light passing through it which is possible either by looking directly through the exit pupil into the eyepiece or by projecting the image formed by the light onto a small screen.
