A direct inversion method for surface structure determination from LEED intensities
Article Abstract:
Similarities between electron holography and low-energy electron diffraction surface crystallography allow construction of three-dimensional images with atomic resolution that avoids the guesswork previously employed to accommodate scattering interactions. The images are derived using a direct inversion method. The model was tested experimentally and shown to be viable for analysis of experimental data. It is currently limited in its application, but it is better than many other holographic transforms.

Observation of the Kapitza-Dirac effect
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to achieve the diffraction of free electrons from a standing light wave. This effect was originally predicted by P.L. Kapitza and P.A.M. Dirac. The Kapitaz-Dirac effect is the same as the diffraction of light by a grating, but with the roles of the wave and matter reversed.

Particles driven to diffraction
Article Abstract:
Research based on work undertaken by physicists Paul Dirac and P.L. Kapitza in the 1930s has shown that electrons can be diffracted by light waves. The series of electron peaks at different scattering angles produced by the new research is in very good alignment with the Kapitza-Dirac theory.
