Antibacterial peptide from H. pylori
Article Abstract:
The bacterium Helicobacter pylori possesses antibacterial activity to which it is itself resistant. This activity has been traced to cecropin-like amino-terminal peptides derived from the ribosomal protein L1 (RpL1). It appears that bacterial lysis on the stomach may release L1-derived cecropin-like peptides that are active against faster-growing microorganisms located there. It also seems that cecropins have evolved from an early rpl1 gene in a prokaryote that was first an intracellular parasite, then a symbiont, then an organelle.

Alpha-haemolysin of uropathogenic E.coli induces Ca2+ oscillations in renal epithelial cells
Article Abstract:
It has been established that infection by uropathogenic Escherichia coli prompts a constant, low-frequency oscillatory response in target primary rat renal epithelial cells induced by the secreted repeats-in-toxin toxin alpha-haemolysin. It seems that alpha-haemolysin may act as an inducer of an oscillating second messenger response in target cells.

Crystal structure of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli intimin-receptor complex
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the mediate adhesion causing bacterial proteins, intimin and its translocated intimin receptor, and their affect on the effacement and attachment of pathogens such as Escherichia coli.
