A new image for fear and emotion
Article Abstract:
Emotion is linked to changes in biochemistry and the brain, and memory formation. Research on the chemistry and physiology of emotion has helped stimulate new interest in understanding emotion. One type of emotional memory appears to be involve the amygdala, located in the brain's temporal lobes. Studies have focused on both rats and humans with damage to the amygdala. Humans cannot assess danger in facial expressions, when they suffer from lesions to the amygdala. The amygdala appears to be most activated during initial phases of learning. Applications include treatment for anxiety and mood disorders.

Pattern recognition computation using action potential timing for stimulus representation
Article Abstract:
A novel neurobiological computational model for pattern recognition that is different from the more common process uses radial basis function units rather than neurons' firing rate to encode analogous information. The timing of action potentials within an ongoing collective oscillatory pattern of activity is used to represent analogous information. One neuro architecture can process significantly diverse sensory modalities and computations using this computational model.

Obsessed with grooming
Article Abstract:
The underlying neurobiology of obsessive compulsion disorder (OCD) is largely unknown, although disruptions in corticostriatal circuits are suspected. This condition is due to the lack of animal models impeded research into this condition.
