A tale of two fishes
Article Abstract:
The orange roughy off Australia and New Zealand have been decimated and the same could happen with the grenadier. The slowly reproducing grenadier, now attracting consumer interest, may not be able to withstand the attention of seafood lovers as the orange roughy could not. Fish of the deep ocean have low metabolisms and reproduce later in life than others. It is thought that grenadier are widespread in the deep ocean areas and that they travel solitary routes, while orange roughy tend to form large groups in a few places. Both seem to live many years. More information is needed.

Sequoia forest beneath the sea
Article Abstract:
Giant kelp forests provide hundreds of sea creatures with homes, food and protection. Kelp is the largest marine plant in the world and can reach 200 feet in length. The marine life found in kelp beds ranges from sea urchins to sea otters to gray whales, and varies with depth and season, much like a tropical rainforest. Kelp is a member of the algae group of plants, and is sometimes referred to as seaweed.
