A young source of optical emission from distant radio galaxies
Article Abstract:
The unified model states that powerful radio galaxies (PRG) and radio-loud quasars (QSR) are the same objects seen at decreasing angles between the radio axis and the line of sight. However, analysis of (O III) 5,007-angstrom luminosities of QSR showed them to be 5-10 times higher than those of similar PRG. To check the validity of the unified model, similar analyses were conducted using (O II) 3,727-angstrom emission line luminosities. The results were in accordance with the predictionsof the unified model.

A test of the nature of cosmic acceleration using galaxy redshift distortions
Article Abstract:
The observations based on measurement of a radial anisotropy in the clustering pattern reconstructed by galaxy redshift surveys are reported. The results provide insight into the accelerated expansion phase of Universe, which is in agreement with standard cosmological-constant model with low matter density and flat geometry.

A large population of galaxies 9 to 12 billion years back in the history of the Universe
Article Abstract:
The results of a flux-limited I-band survey of galaxies at look-back times of 9 to 12 billion years are reported. Results reveal that the cosmic star formation rate representing the volume-averaged production of stars is higher than previously measured at redshifts of 3 to 4.
