An arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus accelerates decomposition and acquires nitrogen directly form organic matter
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the influence of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis on increased nitrogen capture and on decomposition of organic material in the soil. The hyphal growth of the fungus independently of the host plant is discussed.

Mycorrhizal weathering in base-poor forests
Article Abstract:
The suggestion that trees are able to mine nutrients through their association with symbiotic mycorrhizae is discussed. Their ability to bypass the exchangeable calcium pool in the soil is described.
