An elegant enigma: the cheetah is socially and genetically unique among all the cats
Article Abstract:
Cheetah sociability is much greater than that of other species of cats for various reasons. Litter-mates are safer from other animals of prey if they stay together after leaving their mother. Cubs might also stay with their mother after being weaned because of their dependence on her for food. A lack of genetic variability could account for the difficulties in breeding them in captivity and declining wild populations. More recent research indicates, however, that predation can account for declining wild populations and poor information-sharing and zoo management for difficulties breeding the animals in captivity.

Can cats survive"
Article Abstract:
Maintaining the habitat of cats and regulating their killing will be necessary to ensure the animals' survival in the face of an increasing human population. Manpower and international determination can reduce and maybe stop illegal killing. Field research will lead to information which is the basis for sound conservation planning. The right economic, political and cultural factors will ensure the animals' survival.
