Article Abstract:
The governments in both Britain and the United States has taken measures to pass laws that would protect scientists under the law for animal research and talk about their work. The observations from surveys on scientists' thoughts about animal research, reveal that most of the respondents thought that animal research was essential to the progress of biomedical sciences and suggest that research universities and other institutions could do more to ensure that scientists feel free to talk about their work.

Drug safety on trial
Article Abstract:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reporting on compliance by pharmaceutical companies with its requests for studies of the clinical safety and efficacy of drugs already on the market. Under the FDA's existing system, known as MedWatch, doctors voluntarily report suspected side effects, but epidemiologists estimate that this captures only 10% of adverse events.
