Anti-environment Bush
Article Abstract:
President Bush will allow chemical plants, oil and gas refineries and petrochemical-based industries to release up to 80,000 pounds of pollutants without giving public notice beforehand. Bush overruled the Environmental Protection Agency's ruling that the Clean Air Act of 1990 mandates public notice by any company intending to go beyond its pollution permit on the grounds that requiring notice for only 80,000 pounds is unnecessarily burdensome to industry. However, Bush's unwise action will probably further weaken his self-proclaimed status as the 'environmental president.'

More worries about pollution
Article Abstract:
Rising levels of ozone in the troposphere and its diminishing levels above the troposphere are a cause for concern. The climatic, agricultural, and health implications necessitate immediate measures to overcome the problem. Road transport, fertilizers, industrial solvents and paints, and burning of biomass raise the levels of ozone. Chemical reactions from industries produce damaging effects in the rural areas due to strong winds. Ozone is responsible for greenhouse warming directly and indirectly through its reaction with methane.

Evidence for photochemical control of ozone concentrations in unpolluted marine air
Article Abstract:
Measurements of ozone in pollution-free air over Cape Grim, Tasmania indicate that cyclical photochemistry largely determines the daily rise and fall of ozone levels. The movement of ozone from heavily polluted areas plays a secondary role. Ozone levels rise through the photolysis or light-induced breakdown of nitrogen dioxide and then fall through the photolysis of ozone itself by hydrogen peroxide. Vertical mixing and dry deposition also affect ozone concentrations.
