A neuronal network for computing population vectors in the leech
Article Abstract:
The population coding in a small network underlying the leech local bend is reported. A complete set of sensory inputs to the network were monitored and manipulated. The population vector was found to correlate with bend direction, linking a proposed algorithm for neural population coding with synaptic and network mechanisms.

Dissociation between hand motion and population vectors from neural activity in motor cortex
Article Abstract:
Research into the activity of neurons in contralateral motor cortex of monkeys while they made reaching movements with their right arms oriented in the horizontal plane is presented. There were found to be systematic biases between the population vector and the direction of hand movement.

Converting thoughts into action
Article Abstract:
Exploration of the field of neuroprosthetics could provide a potential approach to permit individuals with severe neurological injuries to interact with environment. Several significant advances being made with brain-implantation technology to that effect are discussed.
