Associative learning by locusts: pairing of visual cues with consumption of protein and carbohydrate
Article Abstract:
It is well known that some insects are capable of associative learning, with most research focused on the honey bee. However, such learning among leaf-feeding insects has received little attention. A new study investigates associative learning in African migratory locusts and examines their nutrient-specific learning capability. Results suggest that locusts move selectively towards visual cues that were previously associated with nutrient deficiency.
