Avian flu and the New World
Article Abstract:
The world's largest poultry exporters, Brazil and United States are not affected by the H5N1 avian influenza virus, but it is inevitable that the virus will reach North and South America is debated by many experts. It is argued that they are yet to face the full extent of the challenge, although government and industry officials reveal that they are well prepared for the arrival of H5N1.

Nuclear power's new dawn

The generation IV International Forum (GIF), a consortium of ten nations has planned the nuclear plants that would all operate at high temperatures, improving their efficiency. The group of scientists and economists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) concluded that, economically, new nuclear plants are not able to compete with coal and gas.

Nuclear war: the threat that never went away
Article Abstract:
The changes that need to be made in the international nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) to overcome the fear of the nuclear threat imposed on the world are discussed. The article states that the five official nuclear-weapon states need to take concrete actions to solve the problem.
