Bandwidth selection for fixed-kernel analysis of animal utilization distributions
Article Abstract:
The problem with the kernel-density estimation of home-range size and other aspects of animal space is the method's high sensitivity to the choice of bandwidth values and biologists call for an objective method of bandwidth selection that would give the most accurate results. A study uses simulations to compare the performance o the scaling least-squares cross-validation (LSCV) and reference approaches to plug-in and solve-the-equation bandwidth methods.

Stress response of working African elephants to transportation and safari adventures
Article Abstract:
The investigation result of the stress response (fecal glucocorticoid metabolite secretion (FGM)) of working elephants in Letsatsing Game Reserve, South Africa was found to be slightly increased when interacting with humans. Further evaluation of interactions under a wide range of contexts was necessary to minimize danger to elephants and humans.
