Biomedical agency floats open-access plan
Article Abstract:
The main biomedical research agency of United States has issued a plan would make the results of all research that it supports freely available shortly after their first publication in the scientific literature. Some publishers opposed the plan by complaining that they are not sufficiently consulted on its impact on the established scientific communication system.

NIH 'roadmap' charts course to takle big research issues
Article Abstract:
The NIH Roadmap, developed by NIH institute reveals a long-term plan for the biomedical research agency in which its component institutes will join forces to tackle priority projects. The plan includes 28 programmes in three main categories namely new technologies, new types of research team and ways to improve clinical research infrastructure.

China plans to modernize traditional medicine
Article Abstract:
The controversy and problems surrounding China's decision to modernize the ancient practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is reported. The modernization would be expanding basic and clinical research, and improving the testing and developing of TCM remedies for export.
