Bird lovers keep sharp eye on owls
Article Abstract:
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is calling on the British government to monitor the new arrivals of a breeding pair of eagle owls, in Britain, last autumn, which have not lived in Britain since the last ice age. The society is worried in case the population grows and that the owls might start to kill significant numbers of endangered species, such as black grouse and hen harriers, but researches argue that eagle owls should be protected as native birds.

Astronomers reject the term 'planet'
Article Abstract:
The International Astronomical Union's (IAU's) panel contends that the collection of objects that are dubbed planets is too diverse to justify a single moniker and hence researchers want to define different types of 'planetary object', which orbit stars other than the Sun. This proposal was in response to a media debate that broke out over the status of another addition to the Solar System, known as 2003 UB313 that orbits near Pluto.

Oil-rig staff get into marine biology
Article Abstract:
Pilots for robot submarines or remote operated vehicles (ROVs) that monitor subsea drilling operations, capture underwater images of oil rigs. They also capture video images of the marine life they see, like the rarely seen dumbo-eared squid, which enables scientists to identify new species and behaviors.
