Natural selection on protein-coding genes in the human genome
Article Abstract:
A statistical approach using comparative population genomic data is used to identify particular genes with evidence of non-neutral evolution and to quantify the extent and directionality of selection operating on a given gene in terms of population gene selection parameter. The distribution of negatively and positively selected genes varies greatly among biological processes and molecular functions, and some transcription factors show an excess of rapidly evolving genes with extensive amino acid polymorphism within humans.

Evolutionary changes in cis and trans gene regulation
Article Abstract:
The distribution of cis- and trans-regulatory changes underlying expression differences between closely related Drosophila species, D. melanogaster and D. simulans is investigated. Results suggest that interspecific expression differences are not caused by select trans-regulatory changes with widespread effects, but rather by many cis-acting changes spread throughout the genome.

Discovery of functional elements in 12 Drosophila genomes using evolutionary signatures
Article Abstract:
The functional elements in the fly, discovered by using the genomes of 12 Drosophila species which reveals characteristic pattern of evolutionary signatures is reported. The signatures facilitate recognition of new protein-coding genes and exons, spurious and incorrect gene annotations, unusual gene structures and stop-codon read-through.
