Bmi-1 determines the proliferative capacity of normal and leukaemic stem cells
Article Abstract:
Research illustrates the regulation of the proliferative activity of normal stem and progenitor cells mediated by the Polycomb group gene Bmi-1. Results show that both leukaemic stem and progenitor cells without Bmi-1 stop proliferation and show signs of differentiation and apoptosis. Complementation analysis demonstrate that Bmi-1 rescues the proliferative defects.
