Body size, age, growth and alternative mating tactics in toads: Satellite males are smaller but not younger than calling males
Article Abstract:
The body-size-age-behavior relationships in Woodhouse's toads, Bufo woodhousii, and Great Plains toads, Bufo cognatus were examined to test the generality of smaller satellite males being younger than larger calling males in anurans. Age estimates based on skeletochronologic analysis of lines of arrested growth from phalanges, indicated that males sampled while adopting a noncalling satellite tactic were smaller, but not younger, than males sampled while adopting a calling tactic.

Effect of natural synthetic noise on evoked vocal responses in a frog of the temperate austral forest
Article Abstract:
The communication strategies used by frogs confronting potential sources of acoustic interference in natural settings are explored by reporting two playback experiments in which males of Eupsophus calcaratus called in response to a synthetic imitation of the conspecific advertisement call presented with different noises. Results show that noises of different nature presented at a moderate level have excitatory effects on the vocal activity of Eupsophus calcaratus.

Learning and development of habitat-specific bat echolocation
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted by recording the echolocation calls of 14 juvenile little brown bats in both open and cluttered space to test the hypotheses that bats learn to produce habitat-specific calls. The results showed that the bats tended to use a more 'open area' call when they are in the cluttered space.
