Body size and social preferences of male and female prairie voles, Microtus ochrogaster
Article Abstract:
A study of prairie voles suggests that their social preferences often reveal their choice of mate. They prefer dominant partners with large bodies who have better chances of survival and protecting their offspring. Social preferences of male and female prairie voles aids in the understanding of their sexual preferences. Body size is affected by environmental factors, and prairie voles can mate when they are 33 days old, so their social preference is normally their mate preference.
