Bridging the gap in the German economy

Gunter Stock, head of research at Berlin-based pharmaceutical firm Schering, is urging science to re-engage with industry to make the German economy better, as the Germany economy is suffering due to a breakdown in relations between science and industry. He is hence working to bring together expertise from different sources in ways that would be useful to society and government alike.

Political wrangling derails German university reforms

The federal government and Germany's 16 states at a meeting failed to agree how to implement a competition to identify and reward the countryEs best university leading to highly disturbing political signal. It was the stated that the top university research in Germany needs extra funding to compete on the global stage and get the competition moving.
