Budgetary and biogeochemical implications of N2O isotope signatures in the Arabian Sea
Article Abstract:
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emitted from upwelled waters in the Arabian Sea is only slightly enriched in O and moderately depleted in N, compared with air, even though there are very large denitrification-related enrichments of N and O in N2O at mid-depths. Research indicates that the intense N2O accumulation in the upper and lower parts of the oxygen minimum zone could be caused by different mechanisms. There seems to be evidence to support the view that denitrification could lead to a net N2O accumulation under certain conditions. N2O production in the upper layer could be the result of a nitrification-denitrification coupling.

Efficient export of carbon to the deep ocean through dissolved organic matter
Article Abstract:
The stoichiometry of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) pool and of DOM decomposition in continental shelf, continental slope and central ocean gyre environments are analyzed. It is found that DOM is remineralized and produced with a C:N:P stoichiometry of 199:20:1 that is substantially lower than for bulk pools, but greater than for particulate organic matter.

Increased marine production of N2O due to intensifying anoxia on the Indian continental shelf
Article Abstract:
The increased runoff of nutrients from western India has resulted in high surface productivity and low-bottom water oxygen concentration on the Indian continental shelf. The increased marine production of nitrous oxide is leading to massive depletions in marine life.
