Campaign to fight malaria hit by surge in demand for medicine
Article Abstract:
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on 8 November 2004, that a rise in demand led to the shortage of the drug artemisinin, the main treatment for malaria, which is undermining an international drive to reduce the malaria death toll. With production looking bleak for WHO's Roll Back Malaria campaign, it is felt that one of the greatest concerns is the further spread of ineffective fake artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs).

Calls to conserve biodiversity hotspots
Article Abstract:
Australia and the US made an announcement in the first week of February 2006 that dozens of new species are found in remote Indonesia has led to fresh calls to protect biodiversity. They hope that their eye-catching photos of never-before seen plants and animals would put pressure on Indonesia, which does not have a great record of conservation, to take care of its natural bounty.
